“Everybody started on the same level”: Envision Racing’s Joel Eriksson on career-best Miami E-Prix finish
Envision Racing driver Joel Eriksson may have missed the podium by finishing fourth at the Miami E-Prix, but he did achieve his career-best finish and deserves applause. He started from sixth place on the grid after an impressive qualifying performance. The 27-year-old Swedish driver said racing at a new circuit like the Miami International Autodrome proved to be advantageous for him, as neither he nor his competitors had any experience racing there.
Talking about racing at a new circuit in Miami, Eriksson told FormulaE.com in an interview, “I think that's where we gained some performance this weekend, because everybody started on the same level. Everybody started on an equal level because nobody had driven here before, so that was very beneficial for me.”
“This is probably the best. It was very, very tricky conditions out there. We all know it's super hard to drive this car in the wet. So just to confirm to myself that I can be quick in the wet as well and can control the car in a very fast way around the lap, that's obviously very, very positive and a good feeling for myself. So this is obviously the strongest FE race so far,” he added.
Citroen Racing driver Nick Cassidy wrote in the comments: “Nice job, man!” along with a clapping emoji.
His fans and loved ones also supported him in the comments section, encouraging him to aim for the podium. A fan wrote, “Incredible result!! Let’s keep going for the podium positions.” Another commented, “Great drive yesterday!!! Hopefully a podium next.” One more added, “Great job, Joel. Podium soon.”
Eriksson comes from a racing family. His elder brother, Jimmy Eriksson, raced in the 2016 GP2 season. He made his Formula E debut at the 2021 Puebla E-Prix by filling in for main driver Nico Muller. He joined Formula E as a full-time driver in 2024 with Envision Racing and now races alongside former champion Sebastien Buemi.
