Antonio Felix Da Costa pens note on 6 Hours of Spa incident: “Emotions this sport puts us through is amazing”

Antonio Felix Da Costa had time in his hand after the Berlin double header and went on to participate in the 6 Hours of Spa race in World Endurance Championship. However, it turned out to be a massive emotional rollercoaster for the Formula E driver as he accidentally hit Aston Martin’s Alex Riberas while the latter tried to pass him but went on to crash in the barrier. Da Costa took to Instagram to pen a note about the incident and apologise for the unfortunate end result.

Antonio Felix Da Costa competed for Alpine Racing team in 6 Hours of Spa. Opening up about the race, he wrote in a note on Instagram: “Yesterday was a big rollercoaster of emotions. Fighting for a win all day and leading a big chunk of the race… And with 30 min to go, things took a bad turn. On the incident with Alex and the Aston, firstly I’m just glad that Alex @alexriberas a friend, was ok, an agressive move from my side, but I didn’t cross any rules, as the stewards agreed. We both just really wanted the position and none of us lifted or opened up, I am sorry for the end result for him.”


He further added, “On the last restart, firstly I am just glad that I am here now, that corner has taken a few victims in the last years, and I was very lucky yesterday, God was definitely with me. I made a mistake, a bit too much speed in cold tires and I got caught out. After what looked like a podium was on the table for us during the race, I really wanted to bring a good result home for the team.”

But eventually feeling relieved that nobody was hurt, he concluded the note saying, “Lastly, the emotions this sport puts us through is amazing, one minute we’re over the moon, the next, you just want to disappear. Learning to deal with these emotions and thoughts has been the biggest blessing of my career. Thanks for the support.”

He also added in the comments: “Thank you all for the constant support. It makes a difference.”

What’s next for Antonio Felix Da Costa in Formula E

Antonio Felix Da Costa didn’t have expected outcome at the recently held Berlin E-Prix. He will now head to Monaco for the Round 9 and Round 10 race. It is scheduled on May 16 and 17.
