Young Warriors upset Sky Securities in Sahare Football tournament opener

Young Warriors

launched their campaign on a bright note by upsetting last year's runners-up Sky Securities 5-4 via penalty shootout in the inaugural match of the 12th Kusum Sahare Memorial Barefoot Football tournament at the Reshimbagh ground here on Monday.

Both the teams failed to score a goal during the regulation period. In the tie-breaker, Joseph, Zakir Qureshi, Amar Choudhari, Amit Naidu and

converted their respective penalties for Warriors. For Sky Securities, Mohd Imran, Suraj Bejani, Mohsin Khan and Dhananjay Patil scored but could not prevent defeat for their team.

The start of the match was dominated by Young Warriors. But as the match progressed, Sky Securities also found their groove. Both teams missed chances galore otherwise the result of the match could have been witnessed during the regulation time.

Earlier, city mayor Pravin Datke inaugurated the tournament. Raju Lokhande, corporator Sarika Nandurkar, Kishor Gajbhiye, president of Nagpur District Athletics Association LR Malviya, former prison officer Anand Pillewan, Manoj Gawande, president of Aai Foundation Nagesh Sahare, athletics coach SJ Anthony, Dr Sambhaji Bhonsale, Vilas Bhalekar, Sunil Nandurkar, Baban Patil, Pradip Wadibhasme, Sandeep Mane, Pramod Sonule, Hemant Gudadhe, Bhojraj Bante, Sachin Ramteke and others also graced the occasion.

On Tuesday, Young Juniors will take on Gohr Club, Reshimbagh Boys will clash with Sojari Warriors, KP United will lock horns with Rohan Brothers, AGW will meet Kudrat, while Aryan Boys will face Young Haider. All the matches will be played at the Reshimbagh ground.
