KOLKATA: Tollygunge Agragami have roped in former Air India boss as their next coach for the remaining matches of their CFL Premier Division A campaign.
The move has come following the club’s decision to part ways with Manoranjan Bhattacharya after the team has lost all their four matches in the competition under the former India defender.
Ghosh, who was looking after an academy in Mumbai and managing Nagpur FC, flew down to the city on Friday night to take charge of Tollygunge Agragami.
He supervised his new team’s first training session at the Barasat stadium on Saturday.
Tollygunge, who are yet to open an account after four matches, will take on Food Corporation of India in the next match, to be held at Barasat on Sunday.
“Coaching a Kolkata side has always been a dream. I’m grateful to Tollygunge Agragami for giving me a chance to fulfil the dream. I’m here with a responsibility — the responsibility of saving the side from relegation. Hopefully, I’ll be able to justify their faith in me,” Ghosh said.
Manoranjan’s position at Tollygunge became untenable soon after the team’s 0-3 loss to East Bengal on Thursday. Following an emergent meeting, the club officials decided to part ways with Manoranjan, who won the
National Football League with East Bengal in the 2000-2001 season.
The 62-year-old Ghosh would assume his duty as the technical director of Tollygunge Agragami. He has been contracted with the club for the team’s next seven matches in the CFL.
Apart from managing Air India in the NFL / I-League, Ghosh was also in charge of Mumbai Tigers when the team was formed in 2012-2013 season.
