BENGALURU:
BSF Bangalore
will conduct the second phase of the
Oorja CAPF U-19 Football Talent Hunt
for boys and girls, with five chosen teams from the south zone set to battle it out from June 17-25. At stake will be progress to the third phase zonal tournament, which will be held in New Delhi next month.
After the first phase, players from various schools and clubs in the south zone were selected to form five state teams - CISF Andhra Pradesh,
CRPF Tamil Nadu
, CRPF Kerala, BSF
Karnataka and
CRPF Puducherry
. These players have now been divided into two pools that will compete to make the finals. The winning boys and girls teams will represent south zone in New Delhi.
The organizers said the event, organized to give kids the opportunity to play football, would be engaging over 12,500 U-19 footballers with over 1,200 matches being played in three months. Another objective is to be part of Mission XI Million, the legacy programme of the FIFA U-17 World Cup to be held in India this year.
BSF Karnataka boys kick off their campaign against CRPF Tamil Nadu on Saturday at 2.30 pm at the Sree Kanteerava stadium while the girls will play CRPF Puducherry on Sunday at 7am at the Bangalore Football stadium. The finals of the tournament will be held on June 25.
The groups (Phase 2): Boys (matches at Sree Kanteerava stadium): Group A: CRPF Kerala, CRPF Puducherry, CISF Andhra Pradesh. Group B: BSF Karnataka, CRPF Tamil Nadu. Girls (matches at Bangalore football stadium): Group A: CRPF Kerala, CRPF Puducherry, BSF Karnataka. Group B: CISF Andhra Pradesh, CRPF Tamil Nadu.
