"You've always been my knight in shining armour," Victoria wrote, calling David's knighthood "so deserved" and adding, "Your dedication to the things that matter most — your country, your work, your passion, and most of all, your family — has never wavered."

David's knighthood, announced in King Charles' birthday honours list, recognises his services to British society, including work with The King's Foundation. The former Manchester United and England captain had earlier received an OBE in 2003. The official knighthood investiture ceremony is scheduled for a later date.
