, which was founded in 1921, is in its centenary year and has grand plans to mark the occasion.

“Our centenary has coincided with the Covid-19 pandemic situation, which is not good for us. The supporters are our biggest asset and we would surely like to celebrate with them,” Alaves president

Alfonso Fernandez de Troconiz

said during a webinar organized by the La Liga.

“We have planned programmes and events to celebrate through the year and it may go on a little longer as well. We have decided to have over a hundred activities, both online and offline. We really hope that in the second half of our centenary year we will have the fans back and attending our events.”

The club has also a new unveiled a new club crest this season and launched a new anthem to celebrate the centenary.

clubs across the globe, Alaves has also been affected by the pandemic.

“We are a club that depends a lot on the broadcasting rights. At the same time, no people in the stadium means no revenue from ticket sales. Also, we do not have the same sponsor contracts as before. All clubs have suffered,” Alfonso Fernandez de Troconiz added.

“We have adopted extra-ordinary measured and reduced expenses to mitigate the effects on the medium and long term. There is surely a before and after of the pandemic.

“We hope that the situation will gradually become normal and we will have people back in the stadium.”
