Mohammedan Sporting mourn death of Abdul Latif

Mohammedan Sporting Club

(MSC) mourn the passing of former club's midfielder and coach Abdul Latif on Monday. Abdul battled a prolonged illness in Guwahati. He was 73.


Born in Hyderabad in 1945, Latif who played on both wings as well as central midfield, represented MSC from 1963 to 1967 and later took over as coach.

Latif was part of the Indian team that won the bronze medal in 1970 Bangkok Asian Games. He also represented India in Asia Cup Qualifier in 1968 in Myanmar and

Merdeka Cup

in 1969 in Kuala Lumpur.

"I have received the devastating news of Abdul Latif's passing," said MSC official

. "I am still reeling from the shock of hearing this sad news."

"Abdul Latif may be gone but he will never be forgotten. His memory will linger on in the hearts and minds of the Mohammedan Sporting Club faithfuls," he further added.

After retirement Latif settled in Guwahati and began his career as a coach, under his guidance Assam won the junior and sub-junior national championships.

He also coached MSC from 1978 to 1980.
