NAGPUR: Kamptee's traditional football powerhouse, Rabbani Club, did no harm to their reputation when they recently emerged champions in the All India Gold Cup Football tournament, organized by Sporting Club Mubarakpur, at Mubarakpur, Uttar Pradesh.
In the summit clash, Rabbani Club edged out Sahara India, Lucknow 1-0 to clinch the title.
The match-winner came in the 20th minute when Mohammad Yasin crossed from the right flank and Fahad Junaid slammed home a powerful volley.
Rabbani defenders came up with solid defence to hold on to their slender lead to frustrate the home team.
Earlier in the semis, Rabbani brushed aside the challenge of NLIPE Gwalior 4-2. Fahad Junaid hammered a brace, while
Mohammad Saleem and Mohammad Yaseen scored a goal each.
Champions Rabbani Club got richer by Rs 30,000. Prolific scorer Fahad Junaid was adjudged as best player of the tournament. Sattar Ansari accompanied the team as manager.
