CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh is fast emerging as the nursery of football not only in region but on national level as well. After the resounding success of Chandigarh Football Academy (CFA) and a good response for Bhaichung Bhutia's Chandigarh football League (CFL) a new entity, Junior Football Camp (JFC) III, is soon set to arrive in city.
Junior Football Camp (JFC) III along with FC Bayern Munich will hold a camp in Munich, Germany in August 2012 and give teenagers the opportunity to meet and train with the legendary FC Bayern Munich coaches on the club's official training ground, the Allianz Arena.
Harjinder Singh, chief coach, Chandigarh Football Academy and former Indian captain and member of former Asian All Star team said, “It is a novel venture to promote footballers in the city. We are hopeful to find talent here and polish it for national stage."
Into it's third year, the camp will come to Chandigarh for the first time to promote football among school children and help talented young football players have access to the best infrastructure, training and above all, an international platform to showcase and exhibit India's next talent.
As many as 700 kids from all over India will be selected and then shortlisted for a stint in Germany. Once they are back from there they will get scholarship also to continue their march to the national side.
"This is a God-sent opportunity for us. Now we have plenty of options to showcase our skills. Chandigarh is fast emerging as the hub of football in junior category. There is a lot of competition here and players are really eager to make their mark on national stage," said CFA striker Nishu Kumar on Wednesday.
