PANAJI: After the high drama in Barbados which prompted India to cancel a scheduled international friendly, sanity has finally been restored to the Indian football team's tour of the Caribbean.
The Indian High Commission of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago has stepped in to ensure that the team does not face any hardships like they did in Barbados.
And on the evidence of the hospitality on offer in Trinidad and Tobago, much of what happened earlier on the tour seems to have been forgotten.
"The excellent treatment here has made us forget what happened earlier. The players are eager for this high-profile match and we are looking forward to our first friendly," coach Armando Colaco told TOI.
The first of the two remaining friendlies will be played against a strong Trinidad and Tobago side at the Hasely Crawford stadium on Sunday. Trinidad and Tobago -- ranked 65 places above India -- will not field any of their Europe-based players but will still present much more than just a formidable challenge.
"Trinidad will be the strongest challenge since I took over this team. They are playing at home, have got some good players in their ranks and is coached by a German. This team, though, is not afraid of taking on anyone and I am confident that the boys will get something out of the game," said Colaco.
The match kicks off at 5pm (2.30am IST on Monday).
Colaco calls for inquiry into Barbados fiascoPANAJI: Armando Colaco has asked the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to launch a inquiry to find out how and why the team was treated shabbily in Barbados. Colaco has been at the heart of a storm that saw him refuse to the FIFA-approved friendly against Barbados. Colaco said, "We had to give up on that game due to circumstances beyond our control."
