KOLKATA: Indian Football Association (IFA) will call a meeting of their concerned committee to decide what action will be taken against players who were engaged in a brawl during Saturday's match between East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting.
"But before that we will have to get the reports from the concerned match referee, match commissioner, concerned clubs and their players," IFA secretary Utpal Ganguly said.
"We have asked the referee and the match commissioner to give their reports and also asked the clubs to submit their versions of the incident," he added.
Towards the end of East Bengal-Mohammedan Sporting match on Saturday, players of both the teams got involved in brawl, spitting and gesticulations following which referee Biplab Poddar showed red cards to Alvito d' Cunha and Yga Okpara of East Bengal and Eduardo and Dipankar Roy Mohammedan Sporting.
East Bengal Football secretary Santosh Bhattacharjee said he has asked the manager and the coach of the East Bengal team to give their reports about the incident.
"After going through their reports we would reply to IFA's letter," Bhattacharjee said. "The club authorities, however, are with the players," he added.
Ground Secretary of Mohammedan Sporting Md Qamaruddin informed that they had a meeting with the club president on the issue last night.
He said his players were not at fault. "Everybody saw what happened that day," he said and added that they would give the necessary reply after receiving letter from the IFA.
Officials of both the clubs, however, maintained that referee Biplab Poddar could not tackle the situation properly.
