PANAJI: The Goa Football Association's disciplinary committee took strong note of Uday Lingudkar's alleged misbehaviour and fined the executive committee member Rs 50,000.
This is the first instance of a executive committee member being handed monetary fine by the GFA. The decision has already been ratified by the executive committee during last week's monthly meeting.
"Lingudkar was not too happy with the fine and sought to bring it up for discussion but the members did not want to interfere with the disciplinary committee's order," said a senior executive committee member.
According to a complaint, Lingudkar was guilty of inciting a official from Sai Avtar Club, Anjuna - his own club - to hit the officiating referee in an inter-village football tournament at Sangolda in North Goa.
The report said Lingudkar was chiefly responsible for inciting the supporter to manhandle the referee and also throw a water bottle at him.
The disciplinary committee of the GFA, chaired by Adv Antonio Cardoso, issued show cause notices to all parties, heard them separately before deciding on the exemplary punishment.
The referee was learnt to be backed by the organizers - Sangolda Lightning - although Lingudkar claimed innocence.
"The disciplinary gave everyone a fair chance. They had good evidence to back their claims," said a source.
Lingudkar, interestingly, belongs to the ruling panel in the GFA led by president Shrinivas Dempo. Lingudkar was the chef-de-mission of the Goan team at the National Football Championship for the
Santosh Trophy in Orissa recently.
Since being fined there have been calls for Lingudkar to resign from the GFA executive committee.
