PUNE: Dempo Sports Club got down to business the evening they hit Pune for their crucial and concluding AFC Cup group league match against Al Ansar at the Balewadi Sports Complex on Wednesday.
A majority of the players hit the gym to get into attack mode when they take the field.
"The team is in very good spirit and the boys are geared up. They know they have to win this crucial match and are determined to give their best," said chief coach Armando Colaco.
"I find myself in the same shoes as Alex Ferguson found himself with Manchester United before their Champions League match against Schalke 04. They picked up their game and showed what the team is made of. I'm confident my boys will do well especially after their performances in the last few games in the I-League.
"We did brilliant in the away game against them but two blunders in defence, one a misunderstanding, took the match away from us. This time we are determined to make up for that loss and the thought that we have a great chance to move to the next stage is the best motivating factor for the boys," added Armando.
Brazilian striker Beto showed what his coach meant when he said the boys will settle for nothing less.
"We have had a hectic season but we are nearing the end now and believe we can win the I-League title as well as win Wednesday's game and qualify for the next round. We must qualify if we have to progress further in Asian football.
"It is these experiences that will help us become sharper and stronger," Beto told TOI after a session at the gym.
"We have an obligation, and that is to achieve our goal of qualifying for the next stage. We have to put our setbacks behind and start afresh for this big occasion," said the Brazilian midfielder.
