KOLKATA: The crisis in the

Indian Football Association

(

IFA

) ended after its general secretary Joydeep Mukherjee withdrew his resignation at the governing body meeting on Monday.

Mukherjee had put in his papers last December citing personal reasons although he carried on his duties till the end of the I-League which was staged in the city.

However, it was learnt that differences with association president Ajit Banerjee led Mukherjee to take this step which led to a stalemate in the operation of the association. It took four months to sort things out with IFA chairman Subrata Dutta learnt to have played a major role in breaking the ice.

Along with Mukherjee, three other vice-presidents who too resigned subsequently have been requested to re-join the association at the governing body meet which was attended by 22 members.

However, none of the warring parties spoke on the differences between the top two office-bearers in the meeting. “We will work together again in the interest of

Bengal football

,” the IFA president was quoted as saying. “The secretary resigned for personal reasons. However, that problem has been solved,” he added.

Dutta too is happy to see Mukherjee back in the chair. “Joydeep is needed for the betterment of Bengal football,” he said. “I don’t know what he said to the media,” Dutta said. “We have accepted the statement of his letter which said personal reasons,” he added.

Mukherjee too looked ahead saying he is ready to work again for the betterment of Bengal and Indian football.
