Chennai teams shine in RFYS football zonals

CHENNAI: Chennai's Hindustan University, Evaans Matric HSS and PS Senior Secondary School began their campaign in the zonal phase of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament on a high note, posting comfortable victories in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
In College Boys' category, Hindustan blew away Wesley Degree College (Hyderabad) 12-0 at the Wesley Degree College, while Evaans brushed aside St Mary's Junior College (Hyd) 4-1 in the another match of the day.Prabhakaran S (45th, 58th, 69th), Muhammed Miqdad (5th, 56th) and Ugyen Dorji (36th, 50th) were the star performers for Hindustan University, scoring nearly half of the team's goals. Saran Raj G (10th), Saravanan Solai (23), Lazim Ali (25), Rajapandi P (73) and Suriya B (89) were the other scorers.
Riding on B Dhriti goal PS Senior managed a narrow 1-0 win against a strong Telangana Sports School in the School Girls category. St Gabriel's HSS were the only Tamil Nadu team to lose on the second day of the zonals, going down to Telangana Sports School (Hyd) 0-3.
Evaans Matric got into the lead early as St Mary's Junior College scored a self-goal in the ninth minute itself. However, a fine brace by Godferry Joe (68th & 86th) and another goal by Harish H (73rd) underlined their supremacy in the game. Mustafa Habeeb managed to find the back of the net in the 75th minute but the host team couldn't avert the 4-1 drubbing.
