KOLKATA: Kushal Das, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) secretary, on Saturday hinted at a shake-up of Indian football in the near future and said that the roadmap ahead may see a merger of the beleaguered I-League with the nascent
Indian Super League.
There are quite a few issues plaguing the I-League amid reports that two Pune-based clubs - Pune FC and Bharat FC - might pull the plug.
Das said the stakeholders of Indian football feel there should be a consolidation of leagues.
"There is a roadmap and that is to have just one league in the country in the next two to three years. Most stakeholders feel that there should be one league. There will be a shake-up in Indian football.
"However, we have to see how that can be done and there needs to be proper discussion in that regard," he said. Das also revealed that AIFF president Praful Patel will meet Pune FC and Bharat FC officials next week.
