KOLKATA:
NorthEast United FC have roped in Uruguayan striker Sasha Aneff for the third edition of the Indian Super League that will be played later this year. The 25-year old marksman is a former Uruguay under-20 player and is the first foreign striker to be signed by NorthEast United FC for the third season.
Sasha is the fourth foreign signing made by NorthEast United FC so far this season.
Sasha has played for clubs like Defensor Sporting Club, Racing Club de Montevideo, Domzale Football Club in Slovenia and Swedish club Syriansha FC.
"I can assure you that I will give my hundred per cent in every training session and every game. I cannot wait to come to India and get started, said Sasha. "We just about missed out on a play-off spot last year. This year we will aim to rectify that."
Sergio Farias, the head coach of NorthEast United Football Club, was pleased with the signing.
"Any good side needs to have a balanced mixture on youth and experience. In Sasha we have someone who has a good engine, works hard for the team, is a good header of the ball and is always anticipating things in the box," he said.
Ardeshir Jeejeebhoy, director of football of NorthEast United FC feels that Sasha will be an asset for the team.
"Continuing with our philosophy of letting Sergio identify the pieces of the jigsaw, we have brought on board Sasha, who we feel will be an asset for the team. We hope that he will have a great season at NorthEast United FC and aid us in our thrust towards something special this season," said Jeejeebhoy.
