Nandha Kumar has been the lone bright spot in
Delhi Dynamos
' poor show in the
Indian Super League (
ISL
) so far. The 23-year-old, who was signed on loan from I-League side
Chennai City FC
(
CCFC
) ahead of the season, has put up consistent performances and has been a constant threat to the opposition. To reward the youngster's efforts, Dynamos have decided to buy him out and offer the Chennai lad a deal for another two seasons.
It was learnt that the youngster has been bought for a fee of approximately Rs 23 lakhs, which is one of the highest transfer amount for an Indian player in the history of ISL. An announcement is likely to be made on Wednesday as Dynamos are waiting to get the Central Registration System (CRS) certificate from the AIFF.
"We have been monitoring Nandha during the ongoing tournament and he has met our expectations. He has always been very vocal of wanting to play ISL and we decided to buy him from Chennai City. We are just waiting for the CRS certificate and once we get that we will officially give him a contract for another two seasons," a Dynamos official told TOI on Tuesday.
Nandha have appeared in five of the 10 matches Dynamos have played this season playing 355 minutes with one assist. He has made 157 passes and his passing accuracy this season is 66.24%. Though Dynamos are languishing at the bottom of the table and have very faint chance of making it to the top four, the official says that Nandha is a good Indian prospect who will help them build their team in the longer run. "Nandha is a very promising player. We had signed him after his good performance with Chennai in I-League and he is very much a part of our plans for building our team in the future."
Chennai City owner Rohit Ramesh said that he was very proud of Nandha and hopes the youngster doesn't forget his roots. "I am delighted for Nadha. But I sincerely hope that he doesn't let all the adulation go to his head and he remembers where he has come from. Nandha has always been humble and patient and I hope he stays the same on this journey too. As a club we are happy that we could give him the recognition and now it is up to him to prove himself worthy," he said.
