In a fast-paced match Mohun Bagan managed to get past gritty Pune FC 2-0 in the 19th round of the I-league at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mhalunge-Balewadi on Saturday.

PUNE: In a fast-paced match Mohun Bagan managed to get past gritty Pune FC 2-0 in the 19th round of the I-league at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mhalunge-Balewadi on Saturday.
With this win, Mohun Bagan move to 31 points from 14 matches to consolidate their position in the I-League. Bengaluru FC trail Bagan by three points but the latter have played one extra match.

The visitors took the lead in the 5th minute through Jeje Lalpekhlua when Denson Devdas' shot rebounded off the bar. With Pune FC defenders Munmun Lugun and Brazalian Lu ciano Sobrosa a touch slow in clearing the ball, the unmarked Jeje tapped the ball home.
In the second half, Pune FC nearly scored when defender Zohmingliana Ralte's powerful volley went sailing over the post. Two minutes later, Bagan could have increased their lead but striker Sony Norde's direct kick hit the left post and went out.
In the 65th minute, the hosts had a golden opportunity for an equaliser but Japanese striker Ryuji Sueoka's shot went over the past.
Bagan finally scored their second goal through Katsumi's header to beat custodian Amrinder Singh to his left corner.
