LONDON: West Ham has offered a weekly salary of 100,000 pounds ($161,542) in the hope of enticing a star player to help it avoid relegation from the Premier League.
British media has widely reported the player to be Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The former Netherlands player has been linked with West Ham's London rival Tottenham, but new Hammers co-chairman David Sullivan says he is targeting what he called "a very special player."
Sullivan told BBC Radio 5 that "there's no transfer fee involved and he's got the choice of almost every club in Europe."
Sullivan and David Gold bought a 50 percent stake in the club this week.
