The Dutch centre-back will be free to discuss terms with clubs abroad from January 1, as his present contract concludes at the season's end, though he reportedly wishes to remain at Anfield.

When questioned about developments, van Dijk was straightforward: "There is no deadline at all. We will see what the future brings. Is there an update? No."

The defender is amongst three significant players entering their final six months of contract, alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah.

Salah has elevated himself to fourth position in Liverpool's scoring records with 229 goals, following his brace in their 6-3 victory against Tottenham on Sunday.

The Egyptian striker has accumulated 18 goals this season, with 15 in the Premier League, whilst also providing 15 assists. His inaugural Liverpool season in 2017/18 saw him net 44 times across all competitions.

Van Dijk expressed admiration for his 32-year-old teammate's achievements: "The numbers speak for themselves. He's a very special athlete. He's done amazingly for the club and hopefully he can play his best season ever for the club, stay important with his goals and assists and be clinical."

Regarding Salah's future, van Dijk remained noncommittal: "He is a professional. We've been there, he's been there, so onto the next (game). And next season? I don't know."
