NEW DELHI: Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday announced they have signed Antonin Kinsky, the Czech Republic Under-21 international goalkeeper.

Kinsky joins from Slavia Prague for a reported fee of £12.5 million ($15.5 million).

Tottenham's first-choice goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario, has been absent since fracturing his ankle against Manchester City in November. His return is expected by the end of February.

Fraser Forster has been filling in for Vicario. However, Forster's illness meant Brandon Austin took his place in the recent 2-1 defeat to Newcastle.

The loss is part of a broader downturn in form for Tottenham. Ange Postecoglou's side has won just two of their last eleven matches across all competitions. They currently sit 12th in the Premier League.

Kinsky, aged 21, underwent a medical at Tottenham on Saturday. His contract with the club extends until 2031. Interestingly, his father was also a Czech international goalkeeper.

Kinsky has made 29 appearances for Slavia Prague this season, boasting an impressive 14 clean sheets.

"It was clear that such an opportunity may not come again," he said. "I decided to go for it, and then it was all down to a deal between the clubs."

The transfer is contingent upon international clearance and the approval of a work permit.
