Elneny's journey with Arsenal began in 2016 when he was acquired from FC Basel, a Swiss club, for a fee of 5 million pounds ($6 million). During his time with the London-based team, he has featured in 161 matches.

The 31-year-old player's involvement in the 2022-23 season was limited to just eight appearances due to a knee injury. In the ongoing campaign, Elneny has taken part in six matches across all competitions for Arsenal.

In a heartfelt video message shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Elneny expressed his gratitude to the Arsenal supporters, affectionately known as Gooners. "Gooners, I'm here today to send you a message, to say goodbye and thank you for everything you've done for me," he said. "The love, the support and the kindness. I'm really going to miss you so much and you'll be in my heart forever."

While Elneny did not disclose his future plans or destination after his departure from Arsenal, he mentioned that he would bid farewell to the fans at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Arsenal are set to host Everton in their final league match of the season, with the team hoping for a slip-up from Manchester City against West Ham United, which could potentially secure their first league title in two decades.
