The win came after a run of poor results and a home loss to Manchester United. Bukayo Saka was injured in the warm-up, but his replacement Noni Madueke played a key role.
Madueke’s cross was headed in by Martin Zubimendi to give Arsenal the lead. Before half-time, another Madueke cross was pushed into his own net by Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow.
"A very impressive performance, a very impressive result, especially in the context that we've done it," said Arteta.
Leeds stayed six points above the relegation zone despite the loss.
In the second half, Viktor Gyokeres scored from Gabriel Martinelli’s cross, and Gabriel Jesus added a late fourth goal. Arsenal now look to Tottenham’s match with Manchester City, while Aston Villa face Brentford.
Chelsea climbed into the top four after a 3-2 win over West Ham at Stamford Bridge.
West Ham led 2-0 at half-time through goals from Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville, and Chelsea were booed off.
Manager Liam Rosenior made three changes at the second half, which changed the game. Joao Pedro and Marc Cucurella scored to level the match, and Enzo Fernandez scored the winner in stoppage time.
"The reaction in the second half tells me that we've got something really, really special here if I can utilise the squad in the correct way," said Rosenior.
Liverpool won 4-1 against Newcastle for their first league win of the year.
Newcastle scored first through Anthony Gordon. Hugo Ekitike scored twice, with Florian Wirtz involved in the first.
