Riot Games is expanding its universe and taking League of Legends beyond Summoner’s Rift. The exciting LoL game spin-offs are set for launch in 2025. While the details are scarce, there are some projects on which the studio is betting big to expand the flagship IP in the new genres. From the RPGs to the fighting games, here is what the fans can expect from the ever-growing universe of Runeterra this year.
Upcoming League of Legends spin-off games
LoL Esports Manager
Featuring gacha mechanics, this mobile-exclusive title will put a player in the shoes of an esports team manager. The game will allow users to draft professional players, complete virtual leagues, and strategize the bans and picks.
While the Chinese beta was launched in 2022, Riot has not yet confirmed the game’s global release plans.
2XKO- the Tag-Team Fighter
The 1st major fighting game by Riot brings the League champions to the arena with the unique 2v2 tag-team system. Unlike the traditional fighters, this game lets the players switch between 2 selected champions in between the matches. It creates a dynamic team combo.
It’s a free-to-play title that will be launching simultaneously on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S in 2025. It will mark the 1st console debut of Riot.
Project F
It is one of the most mysterious projects of Riot. The Diablo-style action RPG was 1st teased in 2019. It is set in the League universe and will feature loot-driven and isometric combat progression.
The developmental updates have been scarce. However, the insiders suggest the game is in active production.
Untitled League of Legends MMORPG
The MMORPG set of Riot is set in Runeterra and underwent a development reboot in early 2024 to differentiate itself from its competitors. Though it’s still years away from its release, the developers at Worlds 2024 have confirmed that the project is heading now in a great direction. The game promises a fresh take on the genre.
What does it mean for League of Legends' expanding universe?
The expansion strategy of Riot shows a clear ambition for competing across multiple genres. The simultaneous console release of 2XKO signals a new approach for the developers that was PC-focused traditionally. Meanwhile, Project F and MMO can finally give the fans the long-awaited deep Runeterra RPG experience.
With the Legends of Runeterra and Teamfight Tactics already established, the new titles will complete the transformation of Riot from a single-game studio to a multi-genre powerhouse. While the release date remains uncertain for some of the projects, 2025 definitely looks to be the landmark year for the LoL spin-offs.
