The date is drawing near for wrestlers Hasan “HasanAbi” Piker and conservative marketer Charlie Kirk to step onto the Dartmouth stage on September 25, 2025. This is considered all the more important because the wrestlers have accepted the challenge to debate in the prestigious Dartmouth Emphatic Union series. Dartmouth Political Union (DPU) and Dartmouth Dialogues have taken the step to organize the event which marks the DPU Emphatic Series has already hosted dignitaries such as Robert George, Donna Brazile, Kellyanne Conway, and Cornel West.
Reason of Debate
The Dartmouth debates are segregated into different topics for each year. This year it is titled “The Politics of Youth: Shaping the Minds of Gen-Z,” and the focus on Piker and Kirk speaks more of the proposal to have them speak at this year’s debates.
The reason the debate panel is so anticipated is that one of them epitomizes the extreme political ideologies in the U.S. For a longtime spanning multiple years, Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, has been a salient figure in the advocacy of college conservatism and the implementation of right-wing values on college campuses.
On the other side, Hasan Piker has gained progressive commentator status on Twitch and YouTube for issues like wealth inequality and foreign policy. His notoriety is not limited to the gaming world; as a prominent figure in the realm of online young leftists
Why This Debate Matters Now
The focus on youth politics in 2025 seems to have a great deal of relevance to us as Gen Z continues to shape the outcomes of American elections.
As we see Kirk gaining support from conservative students who feel out of place in liberal educational environments, Hasan is able to engage with students who are set apart from entrenched politics and yearn for profound transformation.
Their confrontation will not be a mere depiction of liberal versus conservative. It will also demonstrate the degree of difference that exists in the knowledge of each side regarding the contributions that young people can make towards the country’s future direction.
A Rematch After Seven Years
This time facing each other is not new. In 2018, October, Piker and Kirk came face to face with a topic that questioned the leanings of the youth, whether they should be liberal or conservative. This debate highlighted the differences in their approach to rhetoric. Kirk assumed the role of the immaculate planner while Hasan embodied the passionate anti-capitalist.
Widening the gap of seven years, both personalities have only managed to increase their fame. This is why their rematch has a lot more at stake than before.
DEBATE: Hasan Piker vs Charlie Kirk, Politicon 2018
