An insider claimed Rockstar secretly showcased GTA 6 trailer 2 at CinemaCon: April Fools' joke or real deal?

Rockstar Games fans were sent into a whirlwind on April 1 after a viral post claimed that a work-in-progress version of GTA 6’s second trailer had been secretly shown to select executives at CinemaCon. The report, posted by the X (formerly Twitter) account @GTASixInfo, suggested that while no footage or details had been leaked, the screening was part of Rockstar’s internal rollout leading up to a public reveal.

The tweet quickly gained traction, with thousands of fans debating whether Rockstar had truly begun private screenings for Trailer 2. Given Rockstar’s highly secretive marketing strategy, the claim immediately sparked skepticism. CinemaCon, an industry-exclusive event primarily focused on film studios showcasing upcoming movies, has no history of featuring video game trailers—making the claim even more dubious.

GTA fans had mixed reactions to the rumor. Some were excited at the possibility of the trailer being closer than expected, while others pointed out inconsistencies in the claim. Many noted that if Rockstar were to conduct a private screening, it would likely happen within gaming industry circles rather than a film-focused convention like CinemaCon.

As of now, Rockstar Games has not announced an official release date for the next GTA 6 trailer. Take-Two Interactive’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, previously stated that Rockstar would strategically time marketing efforts leading up to the game’s 2025 launch. While Trailer 2 is expected to arrive sometime this year, no official details have been confirmed.
