WPL: Georgia Wareham helps Gujarat Giants book Eliminator spot

It is difficult to keep Harmanpreet Kaur out of the spotlight this season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The Mumbai Indians skipper stood firm in their chase of 168, producing a valiant unbeaten 82 off 48b (8 fours, 4 sixes) that kept her side in contention till the very end. But her effort proved insufficient as Gujarat Giants’ well-rounded bowling unit restricted MI to 156 for 7 in 20 overs, clinching an 11-run win at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on Friday.


With this win, Gujarat booked their ticket to the Eliminator of the league.



MI face a nervous wait as their fate now rests on the result of the final league clash between Delhi Capitals and UP Warriorz.

For Giants, Sophie Devine (2/12) once again made her presence felt, dismantling MI’s top order that effectively derailed their chase.

Georgia Wareham, who also played an impactful knock of unbeaten 44 off 26, stepped up with the ball, deliv -ering a crucial breakthrough by ending the 45-run partnership between Harmanpreet and Amelia Kerr.

She concluded her spell with impressive figures of 2-26.

Brief scores: Gujarat Giants 167/4 (A Gardner 46, G Wareham 44 not out; A Kerr 2/26) beat Mumbai Indians 156/7 (H Kaur 82 not out; S Devine 2/23, G Wareham 2/26) by 11 runs.
