NEW DELHI: Mumbai Indians skipper Harmanpreet Kaur blasted a sizzling 30-ball 65, becoming the first batter to score a half-century in the inaugural Women's Premier League match in Navi Mumbai on Saturday.

In the tournament opener against Gujarat Giants, Harman's blitz came at a strike rate of 216.67 and was laced with 14 boundaries.

Harman got to her fifty off just 22 balls in the Ashleigh Gardner's 16th over of the innings.

Taking the Giants' bowlers to the cleaners, Harman assault powered Mumbai to 207 for 5 in the opener at the DY Patil Stadium.


Along with Harman, Kiwi batter Amelia Kerr also smoked an unbeaten 24-ball 45. Opener Hayley Matthews also scored a quickfire 31-ball 47.

Earlier, Giants skipper Beth Mooney won the toss and opted to bowl first.

Sneh Rana picked up a couple of wickets while Georgia Wareham, Tanuja Kanwar and Gardner grabbed a wicket apiece for Giants.
