NEW DELHI: Ahead of the ODI series between India and West Indies, here's a look at the top five ODI highest scores in matches played between the two teams:
Virender Sehwag: 219 at Indore (2011)Virender Sehwag became the second batsman after his idol
Sachin Tendulkar to hit a double century in one-day internationals on December 8, 2011 at Indore. Leading the side in the absence of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the Nawab of Najafgarh took the Windies bowling attack to the cleaners by smashing 7 sixes and 25 fours in his swashbuckling knock of 219 off 149 balls.
Sehwag's fiery knock ensured that India finished with their highest ODI total at that time (418/5). It was also the joint fourth-highest by any side and also the tenth 400-plus total in ODIs at that time as India romped home to a 153-run win.

Batting first, Greenidge and Haynes put up a 185-run opening stand in the 5th ODI on March 21, 1989 at Georgetown. Greenidge fell for 80 but Haynes continued to smash the Indian bowlers to all parts of the ground. Haynes' knock was studded with 6 sixes and 12 fours, as the Windies scored a mammoth score at that time of 289/2 in 43.5 overs. They eventually went on to win the match by 101 runs and with that the five-match series 5-0. At that time this was the highest individual score in an
India vs West Indies ODI. The record stood for 22 years, till 2011.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul: 149* at Nagpur (2007)Under the captaincy of
Rahul Dravid, India batted first in the first ODI on January 21, 2007 at Nagpur. Sourav Ganguly was run out for 98, but Mahendra Singh Dhoni (62*) and Dravid (54*) took India to 338/3 in their 50 overs. Opening the innings, Shivnarine Chanderpaul led the Windies run chase with a brilliant unbeaten 149 off 136 deliveries with the help of 16 fours and 3 sixes. But apart from Chanderpaul's opening partner Chris Gayle (52) and Marlon Samuels (40), none of the other Windies batsmen showed any application and the Windies (324/8) ended up losing the match by 14 runs.
Vivian Richards: 149 at Jamshedpur (1983)This match was part of a series tagged the "Revenge Series" that the Windies came to play in India after losing the 1983 World Cup final. The brute strike force of Vivian Richards on December 7, 1983 at Jamshedpur was enough to set the stands on fire. Opener Gordon Greenidge scored 115, but Richards sent the Indian bowlers on a leather hunt by smacking three sixes and as many as 20 fours in his 149-run knock that came off just 99 deliveries. Richards' knock powered the Windies to 333/8.
Sunil Gavaskar's 83 wasn't enough to take India anywhere near victory as the hosts lost by 104 runs and the Windies took a 4-0 lead in the five-match series.
Sachin Tendulkar: 141* at Kuala Lumpur (2006)In the second match of the DLF Cup at the Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur on September 14, 2006, Sachin Tendulkar notched up his 40th ODI hundred - a brilliant unbeaten 141. Tendulkar was making a comeback to the Indian side after an injury lay-off. Tendulkar reached his century off 119 balls and his unbeaten 141, with the help of five sixes and 13 fours, took India to 309/5. Given a reprieve when he was on 5, Tendulkar went on to score another 136 runs and carried his bat in an ODI for just the second time. West Indies were 141/2 in 20 overs when the match was interrupted by rain. And according to the Duckworth-Lewis method, the par score was calculated to be 112 with the loss of 2 wickets and the Windies were declared winners by 29 runs.
