NEW DELHI: It has been a long time since Pakistan has hosted an international cricket tournament. The last team to travel to Pakistan was Zimbabwe in 2015 since the 2009 terrorist attack on the touring Sri Lankan team.
Now, a
world XI
team, led by South African
Faf du Plessis, is set to play them in Lahore in a three-match T20I series which is expected to set the ball rolling for the return of international cricket in the country.
All the three matches of the Independence Cup will be played in Lahore's
Gaddafi Stadium
and the World XI side landed in the wee hours of Monday in the city.
An unprecedented security greeting the team at the Allama Iqbal International airport. According to reports, the high security cover included paramilitary rangers and police commandos.

) has sent its match referee, Richie Richardson to supervise the series and an influential member of the world body, Giles Clarke, also landed with the World Eleven side on Sunday night.
Both the teams are now fully focused on the T20Is scheduled for September 12, 13 and 15 and have started their preparations for the same. The matches are scheduled to start at 7:30 pm (IST) and will be broadcasted Live and Exclusive on DSPORT.
