VIZAG: Three whitewashes, a home series defeat at the hands of Zimbabwe, 22 defeats, only three wins and no series victory to show for in 2017 - that's been the story of the Sri Lankan team in ODIs this year.
However, they have a great chance of redemption when they face India in the 'final' of the three-match ODI series in Vizag on Sunday.
Newly-appointed skipper
Thisara Perera hopes his team can create "something special" in the "Lanka-like" conditions prevailing in Vizag.
"Definitely Vizag is quite similar to Sri Lanka when it comes to weather and conditions. Mohali and Dharamsala were completely different. It was totally a different story. India are the best team but they will be under more pressure. I hope we will be able to do something special here as this is something similar to what we find back home," said Perera.
While Lanka pacers stunned India in the first ODI reducing their fabled batting unit to 29/7,
Rohit Sharma knocked the stuffing out of the Lankan bowling unit with a breath-taking knock.
However, Perera said his bowlers are "mentally prepared" to take on the likes of Rohit & Co once again. "We are all mentally prepared. Our bowling unit didn't click in Mohali and these things happen in cricket. We want to put that game behind and bounce back. We will not repeat these mistakes.
"Our bowlers had a good chat. Suranga Lakmal and
Nuwan Pradeep bowled really well in the first game, but failed to execute the plans in the next. We have spoken about it and I am pretty certain they will deliver in this match," said Perera.
