The opening week of SA20 Season 4 has delivered a spectacle of high-quality cricket and off-field entertainment, underlined by packed stadiums and record-breaking moments across the country.
Fans have streamed through the turnstiles in impressive numbers, with seven sold-out matches already generating the unmistakable SA20 atmosphere.
The season burst into life at Newlands, where defending champions MI Cape Town and Durban’s Super Giants produced a thrilling run-fest in the opening match. A cumulative 449 runs were scored, featuring 25 sixes and 40 boundaries, setting the tone for a high-octane campaign.

Ryan Rickelton — the league’s highest-ever run-scorer — MI Cape Town were unable to contain the onslaught.
Remarkably, SA20 Season 3 passed without a single century, making Rickelton’s effort an emphatic statement to begin the new season.
Season 4 has also been a week of firsts. The Wanderers hosted its maiden SA20 Super Over on New Year’s Day as Joburg Super Kings and Durban’s Super Giants played out a thrilling tie. JSK eventually prevailed, with Rilee Rossouw striking two decisive boundaries off Noor Ahmad to send a packed Bullring into raptures.
The derbies have produced historic results as well. Joburg Super Kings defeated Pretoria Capitals at Centurion for the first time in four seasons, while Paarl Royals painted the Western Cape pink by completing a double over MI Cape Town — winning at Boland Park and, for the first time, at Newlands.
Two-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape have enjoyed their strongest start to a season, claiming bonus-point victories in their opening two matches against Paarl Royals and Pretoria Capitals.
Sunrisers allrounder Marco Jansen and former teammate Ottneil Baartman, now with Paarl Royals, became the first bowlers in Betway SA20 history to reach the 50-wicket milestone. Baartman has continued his fine form, leading the bowling charts with 11 wickets in just four matches.
Despite MI Cape Town’s struggles, Rickelton remains the competition’s leading run-scorer with 199 runs at an average of 49.75.
The excitement has extended beyond the field. Six fans have already claimed one-handed catches to win a share of the Catch R2 million giveaway, while league partners Absa have handed out R730,000 to 12 winners, with Switch adding R5,000 at every match.
