Team India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah took to social media to congratulate Rohit Sharma on his retirement from Test cricket, becoming one of the first teammates to pay tribute. Posting on Instagram, Bumrah wrote:

“Congratulations on a commendable Test career, it was an honour sharing the dressing room with you. Your legacy in whites will continue to inspire everyone.”

India's Test captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket on Instagram on May 7, 2025, at the age of 38. The veteran batter, who led India to the World Test Championship Final in 2023, will continue to represent the country in ODI format, prompting reactions from cricketers and experts worldwide.

Rohit made the announcement through a heartfelt message on Instagram, stating: "Hello everyone, I would like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It's been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format."

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acknowledged Sharma's retirement with a social media post, expressing pride in his achievements.

India's cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who presented Rohit with his Test debut cap in 2013, praised his remarkable Test career.


Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir took to social media, describing Rohit as "A master, a leader & a gem!"


Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant acknowledged Rohit's positive influence in the Indian dressing room, while legendary spinner Anil Kumble commented: "From a free flowing opener to a composed captain, Rohit's growth in Test cricket has been admirable. He played the game his way - with balance, belief and quiet strength."

Spinner Kuldeep Yadav shared his experience with Rohit, stating: "Not just a leader, but a brother and mentor. Learned so much just by watching you, bhai! Your legacy in whites will stay with us forever."



Former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh praised Rohit's journey, saying: "Test cricket asks a lot of you - grit, patience, and character. Brotherman, you gave it everything and yet made it look effortless. From a quiet fighter to a leader at the top, your journey in whites has been special."

Dhruv Jurel, who debuted under Rohit's captaincy in February 2024, acknowledged him as his first skipper.

Renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle praised Rohit's dual role as player and captain: "Well played #RohitSharma. As player and as captain, you were a joy and India will say a big thank you to you.
