Wriddhiman Saha on way back 'home'
KOLKATA: In a major boost to Bengal cricket before the upcoming domestic season, Wriddhiman Saha has decided to return to his home state. After 15 years of service, the wicketkeeper-batter had formally parted ways with Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) on July 2, 2022 after an official questioned his commitment towards Bengal cricket. Saha operated as player cum mentor of the Tripura senior side for two years.
The CAB has been trying to bring the former Test wicketkeeper back to Bengal for a long time. It now seems that Saha has agreed to return after meeting former India skipper Sourav Ganguly at his residence on Monday afternoon. Although neither Saha nor the CAB have made any formal announcement, it was learnt that talks with Ganguly have helped break the ice.
Just days back, left-handed batter Sudip Chatterjee also decided to return to Bengal after two seasons with Tripura. The former Bengal vice-captain will be playing in the upcoming Bengal Pro T20 league also.
Saha was also finding it difficult to stay away from family for a longer period of time. The 39-year-old player has just returned home after playing for Gujarat Titans in the IPL this season.
The Siliguri boy reportedly has already asked for No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Tripura Cricket Association.
However, with youngster Abhishek Porel establishing himself as Bengal’s rising wicketkeeper batter, it remains to be seen how Saha will be fitted in the side. With the IPL mega auction also on the horizon, it could thus turn out to be an important season for Saha.
