NAGPUR: Vidarbha women achieved great heights last year under the leadership of Indian batswoman
Mona Meshram. With Railways Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) deciding not to give a No Objection Certificate to any of the railway employees who currently feature in the Indian squad, Mona had to go back to Railways.
Now, Vidarbha women start their campaign sans their star player when they take on Jharkhand in the opening match of their Senior Women’s One Day Plate Group ‘B’ League.
Under the former Indian wicketkeeper Anju Jain, this side looks young and is raring to prove that they aren’t dependent on any one player.
Vidarbha are a young and talented side with only two players—allrounder Priyanka Acharya and leg-spinner Ankita Guha—aged above 30. They have a new captain in medium pacer Komal Zanzad, who has been a consistent performer in the last few years. Her deputy, Bharti Fulmali, has also started showing her batting prowess. This year, however, Vidarbha will be looking up to Disha Kasat, who has already played zonals, Challengers Trophy etc.
Vidarbha have also included their U-19 captain Latika Inamdar, who experts consider as very promising. The experience of Acharya, Kanchan Nagwani and Kalyani Chawarkar will also help Vidarbha.
They have a good bowling attack and the team has worked hard on its fielding. Now, it’s time to transform all that hard work on the field.
