Who is Priya Saroj? The 25-year-old MP linked to cricketer Rinku Singh
Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj and Indian cricketer Rinku Singh are set to exchange engagement rings on June 8 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Priya Saroj, one of India's youngest MPs representing the Machhlishahr constituency, and Rinku Singh, known for his performance with Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL, have known each other for over a year through a mutual connection.
Priya Saroj, who hails from Karkhiyaon village in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, entered politics in 2024 when she was elected as the MP of Machhlishahr. She defeated BJP veteran BP Saroj by a margin of over 35,000 votes.

Despite coming from a political family, Saroj pursued a career in law. She completed her education at the Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute in New Delhi and earned her LLB degree from Amity University, Noida.
Following her law degree, Saroj practiced at the Supreme Court of India. Politics was not initially part of her career plans.
Priya's father, Tufani Saroj, is a three-time MP and currently serves as an MLA from UP's Kerakat. She has continued her father's political legacy through her entry into politics.
Rinku Singh, her soon-to-be fiancé, is from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. He gained prominence in Indian cricket as a key player for the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders. Singh made headlines in 2023 when he hit five consecutive sixes in the last over of an IPL match.
Quiz: Who's that IPL player?
The relationship between Priya Saroj and Rinku Singh developed over time, with both families now approving their union.
"Rinku and Priya have known each other for more than a year now. They both liked each other but needed their families' consent for the relationship. Both families have agreed to this marriage," Tufani Saroj stated, as quoted by PTI.
This engagement marks a unique union between a young politician and a rising cricket star, both representing different aspects of public life in India. The ceremony is scheduled to take place in Lucknow, bringing together two prominent personalities from Uttar Pradesh.
Priya Saroj's journey from a law practitioner to one of India's youngest MPs, combined with Rinku Singh's rise in Indian cricket, represents their respective achievements in different fields before their paths crossed.
The engagement announcement has drawn attention from both political and sports circles, highlighting the intersection of two different public spheres in Indian society.
