Wedding cancelled: Smriti Mandhana and Palash Muchhal unfollow each other on social media
NEW DELHI: Indian women’s cricket star Smriti Mandhana has officially called off her wedding with music composer Palash Muchhal, putting an end to weeks of speculation surrounding her personal life. The couple, who were set to marry on November 24, had postponed the ceremony after Mandhana’s father, Shriniwas Mandhana, was hospitalised due to sudden health concerns.

On Sunday, both Palash and Smriti took to Instagram to confirm that the wedding would not go ahead.
Following the announcements, the duo unfollowed each other on the platform. Smriti has also deleted all wedding- and engagement-related pictures and videos, including her proposal clip.
Mandhana, India’s women’s team vice-captain, broke her silence to urge fans and the media to respect the privacy of both families.
“I need to clarify that the wedding is called off. I would like to close this matter here and implore all of you to do the same,” she wrote in her first public statement after weeks of growing speculation.
The star batter explained that the wedding was originally scheduled for November 23, but it was postponed after her father’s sudden heart ailment.
“Over the past few weeks there has been plenty of speculation around my life and I feel it is important for me to speak out at this time,” Mandhana added, calling herself a “very private person” and saying that she felt compelled to set the record straight.
She further requested fans and the public to “respect the privacy of both families” and allow them the “space to process and move on.”
Despite the personal setback, Mandhana emphasised that her focus remains on cricket.
“I believe there is a higher purpose driving us all and for me that has always been representing my country at the highest level. I hope to continue to play and win trophies for India for as long as possible,” she said.
The development comes days after singer Palak Muchhal addressed the situation, saying, “I think the families have been through a very tough time. Like you just said, I would just want to repeat that we would like to believe in positivity at this time. We would like to spread positivity as much as we can. We are also trying to stay strong.”
Mandhana, 28, has been a central figure in Indian women’s cricket for nearly a decade, and with India gearing up for a packed 2026 international season, she reiterated that her professional commitments remain her priority.
“Thank you for all your support. It's time to move forward,” her note concluded.

Nobody really knows what really happened. But IF Palash Muchhal was looking for someone who would cook for hiim, do his laundry, keep the house, and give him lots and lots of little Muchhals, Smriti was probably NOT the girl for him. EVERYTHING in life happens for a very good reason.Read allPost comment
