NEW DELHI: Sri Lanka's Lasith Malinga, usually known for his pace and toe-crushing yorkers, turned bowling spin during a domestic match in Sri Lanka. Malinga, playing for

Teejay Lanka

against LB Finance in the final encounter of MCA division A knockout tournament, decided to bowl off-spin and even ended up picking three wickets.

Malinga finished with figures of 3/22 from his four overs, his wickets being that of Lakshan Rodrigo, Chathuranga Kumara and Anushka Perera. While Rodrigo - going for a slog sweep - was out caught behind by wicketkeeper Sithara Gimhan, the batsman after him, Chathuranga, lost his middle stump attempting a big heave towards cow corner. Four overs later, Malinga picked up his final wicket when Perera holed out to long-off.

Teejay Lanka won the match by 82 runs (D/L Method)

This is not the first instance of a fast bowler opting to bowl spin. Former India medium-pacer Manoj Prabhakar resorted to off-spin after Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya took him to the cleaners during their World Cup match in 1996. Gurinder Sandhu, the Indian-origin Australian fast bowler, recently bowled spin in an unofficial Test match against India A and even even picked four wickets. Pakistan's left-arm pacer Sohail Tanvir too decided to roll his fingers over the ball in a Test match against India in 2007 at the Eden Gardens.
