Virat Kohli congratulates India after U19 World Cup win
The Indian cricket fraternity congratulated the Indian Under-19 team after they won their sixth Under-19 World Cup title with a 100-run victory over England in the final. The win added another title for India in age-group cricket.
India continued its strong record in age-group cricket as captain Ayush Mhatre, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Kanishk Chauhan, and RS Ambrish played key roles in securing the country’s sixth Under-19 World Cup title. This also marks India holding five ICC trophies at the same time, including the ICC T20 World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy, ICC Women’s World Cup, and ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup.
Virat Kohli, who led India to the Under-19 World Cup title in 2008, congratulated the team on social media, by posting, "Congratulations to the U-19 Indian team for lifting the World Cup once again. Our domination in the age-group cricket and beyond continues. Well done to the whole squad and the support staff."
Other Indian cricketers such as Sachin Tendulkar, Suryakumar Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin, Gautam Gambhir and Mithali Raj also congratulated the team.
Indian cricketing icon Tendulkar praised the way the team played and mentioned Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s innings in the final.
"Champions! So proud of this young group and the fearless cricket they played. Well done to the entire team, including coaches and support staff. Enjoy the moment! When you have a Sooryavanshi, a timeless blockbuster is expected! Well done, Vaibhav!"
Indian T20I captain Suryakumar said the players made the country proud, "6th time U-19 World Cup Winners!! You boys are so young yet extraordinary. You've announced yourselves as champions and made the whole nation proud tonight"
Current Indian head coach and former batter Gautam Gambhir also posted about the team’s future. "Proud of you boys! The bright future is here! #IndiaU19".
Former Indian all-rounder Ashwin said the team showed strong intent with the bat throughout the tournament.
"A flawless campaign powered by talent, fearlessness and audacity. The white ball game keeps on moving rapidly and this batch of under - 19's have shown us how much more they are willing to push with bat. Incredible confidence and skill to be able to do what this @BCCI under-19 team did throughout this campaign. Well done boys Scary to think of what par scores are going to look like in the future," posted Ashwin.
Former India women’s captain Mithali Raj also congratulated the team.
"Champions again! Congratulations to India's U19 Men's team on their sixth World Cup triumph. An extraordinary knock by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, 175 in 80 balls, laid the perfect foundation in the final. Wishing these young stars a wonderful journey ahead in Indian cricket."
India’s win was set up by their batting performance. After choosing to bat first, India scored 411/9. Vaibhav Suryavanshi made 175 runs, captain Ayush Mhatre scored 53, and Abhigyan Kundu added 40.
England started the chase well, with Ben Dawkins scoring 66 and Thomas Rew supporting him. The team later lost wickets and slipped from 142/2 to 177/7. Falconer scored 115, but England were bowled out for 311. The total of 722 runs was the highest combined score in an Under-19 World Cup final, as India secured their sixth title.
