HYDERABAD: The euphoria of reaching the semifinals seems to have evaporated quite quickly as Hyderabad batsmen failed to put up a decent show against Mumbai in the four-day
Vijay Merchant Trophy
match in Una on Monday.
Hyderabad were bowled out for 170 with Prince Badiani doing the most damage with a five for 53 haul. Mumbai were seven for no loss at stumps.
Electing to bat, Hyderabad began sedately with openers
Arnav Kothapally
and
Aravelly Avanish
adding 23 for the first wicket. Avanish was the first to depart after making 14 as he became Prince's first victim.
Arnav (14) departed nine runs later as he was caught by Aarya Chowkidar off Prince.
However, S Rohit Reddy and Mayank Gupta steadied the innings with a 67-run partnership for the third wicket. This was the best phase for Hyderabad but once Rohit (22) was sent back by Prince with the score reading 99, Hyderabad lost their way.
Mayank, who top-scored with 50 off 121 balls with five fours and a six, was bowled by
Anurag Singh. To make matters worse for Hyderabad, the man in form, Murugan Abhishek failed to get going. He was caught by Rajsigh Deshmukh off Prince for just 5.
Prince struck yet again off the very next ball as he bowled wicketkeeper Dheeraj Goud (0) and Anurag got rid of Pranav Varma (1) to leave Hyderabad tottering at 127 for seven.
Skipper Aman Rao, who was watching the parade from the other end, was run out for 16.
However, Nitin Sai Yadav scored an unbeaten 34 (78b; 6x4) to help Hyderabad reach 170.
Anurag lent admirable support to Prince and bagged four for 28.
Brief scores: Hyderabad 170 in 83.4 overs (S Rohit Reddy 22, Mayank Gupta 50, Nitin Sai Yadav 34; Prince Badiani 5/53, Anurag Singh 4/28) vs Mumbai 7/0 in 4 overs.
