NAGPUR:

Vidarbha

's key under-19 batsmen - opener Mohd. Faiz and middle-order batsman

Danish Malewar -

have been selected for the Under-19 Challenger Trophy on Friday.

While Faiz is placed in Team 'C',

Malewar

will play for Team 'E' in the 6-team event to be played in Ahmedabad. Earlier, the tournament used to be a four-team affair. Players have been told to report at the venue on Monday.

"Both of them will leave on Monday itself. There are league matches that will end on October 8 followed by a summit clash on October 11," said a

VCA

official.

The batsmen have been rewarded for their crucial knocks in Under-19

Vinoo Mankad Trophy

. Courtesy both of them, Vidarbha had qualified for the quarterfinals. They have a good chance of impressing national selectors and get into a set of probables.

"The Indian board is trying for a larger pool of players with an eye on the Under-19

World Cup

. Some exposure tours abroad are planned in the coming months to provide the players sufficient chances before the World Cup. It is very good opportunity for both the batsmen," the VCA official added.

The opener Faiz is in excellent touch. If he gets going, bowlers have a tough time. Not only does he charges at will but also anchors the innings when needed. The opener Faiz has been the most reliable batsmen along with Danish Malewar.

Malewar, who scored 58 runs in the last league match against Pondicherry in recently concluded Vinoo Mankad Trophy, has been the mainstay of Vidarbha colts and still holds the key in the middle-order.
