Vidarbha enter U-19 Vinoo Mankad quarterfinals with a win over UP

A fine allround performance from Vidarbha colts against Uttar Pradesh helped them book a quarterfinal berth in the Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy on Monday. Mohd. Faiz-led Vidarbha defeated UP by 18 runs via VJD method in the pre quarterfinal encounter at St Xavier's KCA Cricket Ground, Trivandrum. They will face Haryana in the last-8 stage match on Wednesday.

NAGPUR: A fine allround performance from Vidarbha colts against Uttar Pradesh helped them book a quarterfinal berth in the Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy on Monday.
Mohd. Faiz-led Vidarbha defeated UP by 18 runs via VJD method in the pre quarterfinal encounter at St Xavier's KCA Cricket Ground, Trivandrum. They will face Haryana in the last-8 stage match on Wednesday.
The match against UP was delayed due to early morning rain and started only after 12:15 when the inspection was conducted.

Batting first, Vidarbha posted 142 all out in 20.4 overs. Their mainstays - Faiz (33 off 19b) and Danish Malewar (36 off 26b) - pulled their side out of trouble with 54-run union in 34 balls for the third wicket. Later, Gaurav Farde gave a late push scoring 31 off 16 balls and made it a defendable total.
In reply, UP could manage 125 all out. Vidarbha bowlers were effective. Jagjot Sasan and Dharmendra Thakur picked-up two wickets each.
This was Vidarbha's fifth match out of six matches they played this season which was affected due the rains. Earlier in the league stage, two matches were abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Third match remained incomplete as it rained after the first innings. The penultimate league encounter was played without any rain interruption.
Their last league match saw the interruption but Tripura had to face the defeat as the result was derived using VJD method.
