CHENNAI: Before the start of the last IPL season, Rising Pune Supergiants changed their team name to Rising Pune Supergiant citing numerological reasons. And Pune finished runners-up. Now, Madurai franchisee, who were termed
Madurai Super Giants
last year and ended up with the wooden spoon, has followed suit Pune in
TNPL
.
They are now ‘
Madurai Super Giant
’. Team Director Dhaya Alagiri said though he wasn’t a firm believer in numerology, most in his team management do believe. “We wanted to ensure everything is right. I’m not a big believer of numerology; but we have a few people in the team management who believe in such things. So I don’t want to put a gate and say no to the suggestion. They took a cue from Pune and they were indeed finalists this year. What if such a turnaround happens for us!” he added.
Among the 32 young talents picked in the draft on Friday, R Karthikeyan, a former Chennai Super Kings and TN state cricketer, is possibly the biggest beneficiary.
Madurai Super Giant snapped up the left-arm spinner, who was cleared by the TNCA on the eve of the Player Draft after he was reported for suspect action during a TNCA first division league match in 2015.

Shahrukh Khan was the first player picked in the draft by Madurai Super Giant, young batsman S Radhakrishnan, who has been picked for India U19 tour of England next month and won’t be available for the tournament, was picked by Chepauk Super Gillies keeping in mind the future.
