registered their second win in the TNPL-4 as they thrashed
Karaikudi Kaalai
by 57 runs at the NPR College ground in Dindigul on Thursday night.
Patriots’ win was orchestrated by skipper
Subramania Siva who hit an unbeaten 87 as they scored 175 for 4 batting first. From thereon, Patriots’ bowlers took over as they restricted Karaikudi to 118 for 8.
Medium-pacers Tamil Kumaran (2 for 31), S Senthilnathan (2 for 20) and leg-spinner A Venkatesh (2 for 29) shone with the ball.
Karaikudi opener L Suryaprakash was the top-scorer with his 30-ball 31. A 14-ball 30 by Ashwath towards the end helped Karaikudi cross the 100-run mark but it was too little too late.
The star of the match was Subramania Siva whose 40-ball blitz and his 113-run fifth wicket stand with A Venkatesh (30 n.o., 3x4) turned the tables for Patriots in the first half of the clash.
Siva walked in with his team placed at 62 for 4 in the 11th over. Siva took little time to get his eye in and two successive fours off left-arm spinner Maan Bafna (0-23) got him going.
With the Karaikudi bowlers erring in line, Siva was happy to make full use of it. Venkatesh played the supporting role to perfection by giving the maximum strike to his partner.
Siva’s innings got the much-needed impetus in the penultimate over bowled by medium-pacer Sunil Sam (0-43). Siva took Sunil to the cleaners — hitting him for three sixes and two boundaries — as Patriots accrued 28 runs from the 19th over.
The subsequent over saw Patriots score 12 as they finished with a flourish.
