CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu-Karnataka T20 match at Chepauk was in the balance till the 17th over during
Tamil Nadu's chase of 145.
Tamil Nadu needed 36 runs in four overs with five wickets in hand.
Karnataka skipper and veteran seamer R
Vinay Kumar was the bowler with lower-order batsman M Ashwin on strike.
In a span of five balls, Ashwin (34* off 20 balls) was dropped twice by Mohammed Taha at long-on and to make matters worse one such drop cost Karnataka six runs.
The very next over, Ashwin struck another six off offie K Goutham to tilt the balance in favour of Tamil Nadu.
A dejected Vinay said it was the fielding that cost them the match. "The dropped catches let us down. Even when we lost three early wickets during our batting, we thought 140 was a good total on that wicket. It slowed down during the second match. We bowled well but the missed chances cost us," Vinay said after his team's four-wicket defeat to Tamil Nadu at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday.
Vinay, who last played for India in 2013, said he still believes he could make a comeback into the Indian side.
"I always felt that there is a chance for me to make a comeback. I have been performing well. I can't do much other than bowling well and performing. But at the end of the day I started playing only for the love for the game. I want to perform at whatever level I play and make sure I help the team win," added the 32-year-old.
Meanwhile, allrounder Stuart Binny didn't play the first T20 match of the South Zone leg against Tamil Nadu due to a "groin" injury.
"He suffered from a groin injury. However, he is expected to play from the third game," Vinay said.
