Tendulkar vs Dravid: Arjun Tendulkar bowls to Samit Dravid - who has the last laugh?
In a notable cricket encounter at the Dr K. Thimmappiah Memorial Tournament in Bengaluru on Monday, Arjun Tendulkar, son of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, dismissed Samit Dravid, son of Rahul Dravid, creating a unique moment that connected two generations of Indian cricket.
The match between Goa Cricket Association and KSCA Secretary's XI saw Arjun Tendulkar emerge as the leading bowler with figures of 3/50 in 17 overs.
Arjun Tendulkar, who will turn 26 on Wednesday, made an early impact in the game by dismissing KSCA XI captain Nikin Jose for a duck in the third over. The young left-arm pacer, who represents Goa outside his home base of Mumbai, continued his impressive performance throughout the day.
Samit Dravid, aged 19, who recently earned a spot in Karnataka's Ranji Trophy probables for the upcoming season, came to bat at number 5 with his team struggling at 91 for three. After facing 23 deliveries, he encountered Arjun Tendulkar at the crease.
The young Dravid managed to score a boundary in his first two deliveries against Tendulkar but was eventually dismissed for 9 runs off 26 balls.
At the end of the day's play, KSCA XI were positioned at 245 for eight wickets. Earlier in the match, Goa had posted a total of 338 runs in their first innings, during which Samit Dravid contributed with the ball, taking 2 wickets for 18 runs in nine overs.
The match also featured veteran Karnataka batter Karun Nair, whose position in the Indian Test squad for the upcoming West Indies series remains uncertain. Nair had a disappointing outing, scoring just 3 runs off 21 deliveries before being dismissed by his former Karnataka teammate V Koushik, who now represents Goa.
Samit Dravid's participation in the tournament comes after he missed selection for the upcoming U-19 World Cup. The young cricketer has been working on his game following an extended injury layoff since mid-2024.
