‘Technically, Suryakumar Yadav is...’: Pakistan star’s fiery remark on IND vs PAK rivalry will irk Mohsin Naqvi

Wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan's endorsement of Suryakumar Yadav's view on the diminished India-Pakistan rivalry could jeopardize his uncertain international career. Khan's comments, made on a podcast, align with Yadav's assertion that lopsided results have eroded the rivalry's edge. This statement may further hinder his chances of returning to the Pakistan squad.

What matters is whether a team plays good cricket or not.“According to me, if two teams play 15–20 matches and it’s 7-all or 8–7, then that’s a rivalry. But 13–0 or 10–1... I don’t know what the stats are, but this is no longer a rivalry.”The 27-year-old Azam Khan has represented Pakistan in 14 T20Is but hasn’t played international cricket since the 2024 T20 World Cup — and after this comment, his return seems even less likely.

Last year, his father, former Pakistan captain Moin Khan, had criticized the selectors for not giving Azam a consistent run.
“I watched the entire World Cup and the matches leading up to it, and it seemed like Azam was the number one choice for wicketkeeping and batting,” Moin told Cricket Pakistan. “Then suddenly, after just one match, the entire strategy changed.”Pakistan crashed out of the World Cup in the group stage, winning two games but suffering defeats against the USA and India.
