TCA's 'paid' staff raises eyebrows

KOLKATA: In a first for cricket administrators, the

Tripura Cricket Associations

(

TCA

) officials are being paid handsomely for their work. So far all BCCI and state association posts were honorary and the people holding such positions never used to receive any money for their service.


But retired Justice AB Paul, who has been appointed administrator for TCA till the Justice Lodha-complied new constitution of the association was registered, has in a circular decided to pay his advisors Rs 75,000 per month along with other benefits. Accordingly Subrata Dutta Chowdhury and Ajoy Narayan Roy, who have been designated as chairman and convener of tournament committee, Jayanta Dey, who was appointed secretary and Alok Ghosh, who was named the treasurer are enjoying these benefits.

They are also entitled to other benefits like vehicle and daily allowance for out of station travels.

Although all the four are introduced as whole-time advisors in a circular issued by Paul, the fact remains that they have been assigned specific posts in the association also which was also pointed out in the same circular. Questions were also raised regarding legality of whether people can be assigned such posts in the association without any elections.

TCA has already adopted a new constitution which has been sent to Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (

CoA

) for final approval. Once approved, it will be registered and accordingly a new setup will have to come in place.

But till then a handful of people continues to draw a huge 'salary' contrary to what is prevalent in all cricket associations.
